The key to success in every SDS project is to identify specific research objectives right up front. What is the point of the research? SDS research projects are not boilerplate solutions. They are most effective when they are client-focused and client-directed.
To ensure the relevance and usefulness of research results, SDS asks that the following questionnaire be completed at the beginning of every project.
- What types of research have you conducted previous to this project? How long ago? Do you currently have the previous information available? Was it worthwhile? How was the information shared with others in the organization?
- Is management "on board" with this research project? Do they see the research as a valuable tool in meeting the company's objectives?
- In general terms, what do you want to accomplish with the research?
- Will you be looking for input from others or will you have sole responsibility for shepherding the project?
- What specific areas or issues (three or four) do you want to concentrate on in the survey?
- What do you expect from SDS in order to make this project a success?
- Is management committed to making this a process, and using the results to make changes and improvements?
